Door Wreath

We have a blue front door & most likely will have one until spring. When I hung the fall wreath I actually liked how it looked with the blue. I hope it's not just wishful thinking. I purchased blue ribbon and will attempt to make a winter wreath to go with the blue door. There were not many choices of blue ribbon but I did find one i liked.
Enough talk of winter.

Burning Bush

The burning bush in our side yard is living up to its name. One thing about this blog, I've learned a lot looking up different subjects. Oh boy, so sad.

Chair Pad

At a farmer's/flea market in MI I bought this hooked wool chair pad. It was only $2.00. I did have to spend $4.60 on dry cleaning when I got home. It's in great shape & the colors match the entrance to the kitchen/family room perfectly.
It is not hand made. I found an old faded tag on the back. I've been looking for a chair pad for this chair & I'm so happy with my find. I actually felt bad giving the two young boys running the sale only $2.00.

Weekend Visitor

Carrie spent the weekend with me. We ate out on Friday nite, my first time eating out at home in months! On Saturday I cooked turkey with all the trimmings, except the cranberry sauce that I forgot. We also did some crafts & I forced her to watch SU football. I taught her a lot about football. Like I told Cristina, football knowledge is a good dating skill to posses.
Carrie is working on a quote book. She has collected so many wonderful quotes.
Thanks so much for coming up Carrie! Come back soon.

Counted Cross Stitch

During my trip to MI Mick & I went into a yarn shop that also carried cross stitch products. I've never seen so many patterns in my life!! I went back a second time without Mick & looked all the patterns. I bought 2 additional patterns that day.
This is what the finished sampler will look like once I finish what I bought during that first shop visit. I plan to hang it in the family room. During my stay I completed all the letters, the bird and about half the pear. Mick thought the bird was strange looking. I love her!
Amie's friend Carrie from LeMoyne is coming to G2, her third visit, this weekend to stay with me. We plan to craft all weekend. I hope to get a lot more stitching done. Good thing about cross stitching is that you can watch TV and stitch & bring it with you when travel, unlike scrapbooking. This will be a good winter project!

Book Club

Michelle a Biography by Liza Mundy was our selection this month.
Our entire group agreed that this book is not a biography of Michelle but a history of Chicago politics. There is only bits & pieces on Michelle thrown in to events that happened during her life in Chicago. The book was interesting, if you like politics & for some strange reason our group does.
I will be hosting our November meeting, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. What a nice pick! We will also be choosing our selections for 2010, if anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Mix & Match

This weekend was the third year in a row I attended Head of The Charles, it was the 45th annual. Our first year it was 70 degrees, the second year it was very windy, we put on layers & layers and still froze. This year we had RAIN. We spent just over two & a half hours in the rain, it was not pleasant. Although, I would do it again. Head of The Charles is the premier rowing event & a must see. Kelsey is thinking of rowing in college so we just might go again next year.
I didn't bring my camera out into the rain. But, I did take photos out of the hotel window in MI during a storm that came thru.Since I have not spent much time on the water I found watching the bay during the storm very interesting.I mentioned to a few of Mick's co-workers that evening and they didn't have the enthusiasm I had.

Lambeau Field

This post is for LUD.
Mick & I went to Lambeau Field on 10/4 & had lunch at the sports bar, Curly's Pub, inside the stadium.
A statue of Vince Lombardi in front of the stadium.
Also one of "Curly" Lambeau.

The stadium looks very small.
During lunch I figured I've seen 9 NFL stadiums. Mick didn't like the idea of attempting to see everyone. So I was just happy to add WI to my list of states.
Dave, you have to plan a trip. Get out your game schedule.

Goose Poop

I tried to get close to the Canadian Geese, they would not let me. Make sure you notice the light in the background. I have a bunch of photos from that, for another day.
I love the geese & I have several geese prints hanging in the house.
I've always heard stories in the news about the goose poop problem, golfers that can't putt on the greens from the poop & even from home owners on the mess in their yards. "Hi, Ke" I NEVER knew the size of the poop until I saw it first hand in MI. I put down a penny so you could see just how big it is, in case you didn't know. I always assumed golfers were just making excuses on their game by complaining about goose poop.
I still love the geese.
Have a nice weekend. I can't believe another week is behind us. We are already half way thru October.

Replacement Again

Thanks for all your suggestions naming my replacement GPS. I knew someone(s) would suggest their own name, that's something I would have done. I loved the idea of "my little helper" and Sacajawea. What a joke the Palin suggestion was, totally against my idea of smart. So, when I decided to name the GPS Palin I couldn't believe it.
About four hours into my 15 hour road trip the GPS quit, shut off, screen went blank, to this day has not started back up, resigned. I was in a panic since I had no idea what my route was. Thankfully, about 45 minutes down the road there was a Walmart. I ran in, bought another GPS & paid way to much but at that point I would have paid anything. I should not own a GPS. I guess I can't live with one & can't live without one. Palin is not going back to Alaska but to Amazon in Kentucky.
Since I can't have a day without a photo. Our rental. Come visit, it sleeps eight.

A week away

Arrived home yesterday after spending nine days in Michigan. Here we are in the back yard of the house we rented along Lake Michigan.

It was a 15 hour drive, most of which thru Canada. I could have turned it into a much longer drive, if I stopped for photographs, the fall scenery was just beautiful. Stopping would have also been very dangerous. There are no shoulders on the sides of their roads.

You can't find any better fall beauty than where I live.

Wool Felted Acorns

My second fall with the acorns that Mau & I made last year. I also collected a few real acorns to add into the bowl.

The wooden bowl I bought for $2.00 at the Jewish Women's Thrift Store in LA, my favorite place to shop in LA. Next time I visit the antique store I want to bring it with me to see if it old or not. His definition of an "antique" is 100 years. I also bought a Noah's Ark item. It's at the dry cleaner right now. I can't wait to show you that. Would have paid twice what they charged me. Nothing is priced in the store. You have to ask what the cost is for any item you are interested in. I go in with grubby clothes & no jewelry. : )

Every fall I put this Crate & Barrel pumpkin plate in my wire locker basket.

Can't explain why I like the look of that plate in the basket. I look forward each fall to putting it in.

Fall Birch Tree

Taken behind my local elementary school.

Hopefully one day the birch tree we planted in our side yard will be as big as this tree.

Replacement

Well, I finally broke down & purchased a replacement for Agent 99. I've spent this week adding addresses to the "Favorites" and figuring out how the 1350 works.
This time I have the dash mounted holder, with the window mount you are asking for theft. (The window mount leaves a mark after the mount is removed.)
I can't think of a name for 1350. I need your help. I need a girls name that says, "I'm smart." Any suggestions?
I guess I'm ready for a trip!

Fall Sports

Bob came out of retirement and is now a high school athletic director. He asked me to take a few photos of each of the fall sport teams.
Finding a pink slip on your desk is not a good thing. No, they are not getting rid of him!

Taking photos of fast moving subjects is very difficult.

Taking photos inside a dark pool, is very difficult.

I much prefer to be outside.
I have lots of photos of this collision. Wish I didn't have those buildings, power lines & silo in the background.
They do have football. Mike took those photos for Bob. I have one more sport to cover, cross country, that won't take place until the end of the month. I think it will be another challenging sport to photograph. Next time you watch a professional game on TV, look at the lens they have on their cameras. There is good reason why they are so big. Also, they cost thousands of dollars.
