Barbecue

Saturday evening Andy & Amber had all of us over to their house for a barbecue. The food was delicious and it was nice to meet Mike & Brian's girlfriends . Yes, the boys have a life outside of hunting!!!

Amie made me promise I would never wear Crocs. She made me promise again & again I would never wear Crocs. I saw the camo Crocs and HAD to buy a pair for Eric. Kristen thought Amie should have had me promise I would never wear or purchase Crocs.

With the technology of today the boys are already looking at the photos I had just taken that afternoon. Did I mention how much I loved Eric's wide angle lens??

Brian delivered to me the hunting clothes that I would wear for the Sunday morning hunt. Yes Mick, I did get up at 3AM. Very, Very hard to believe.  

Little did Brian know he should have brought me skunk repellent instead of bug spray.

Downwind Outdoors

I took about 150 photographs of the Downwind Outdoor Team over the past weekend. I borrowed Eric's wide angle lens and I now need to buy one for myself.

We had perfect, FINALLY, spring weather.

Andy was the camera man.

Brian was the shooter.

This was their set up.

Every time I do a photo shoot I learn something. I was so proud of myself for remembering to carry my extra battery when we left the vehicles to hike into the woods. Just prior to leaving we were going to take a group photo with me in the photo. Guess what???? My compact flash was filled. I left the extra compact flash in the car. Another weekend without of photo of me and I learned to carry both an extra battery & compact flash.

Morning Hunt

I was up at 3am yesterday morning to go out on a turkey hunt in the Town of Florida. Eric and Andy from Downwind Outdoors and two guest shooters Paul and Kristen were in our group.

 The two below photos were taken at 5:30am.

 It was a beautiful morning. Well, after I could see it was a beautiful morning. Hiking through fields in the pitch dark was quite a different experience.

As soon as we got settled in along a group of trees a scared and I would bet quite surprised skunk came along. The skunk actually came within three feet Kristen & I. I had no idea what was even going on till I looked down and saw a white stripe. We were all very thankful no one got sprayed. The Downwind Outdoors hunting crew heard the turkeys fly off from their overnight roost in the trees behind us, when Eric yelled to scare the skunk away. The decision was then made to move to another area and you know since I was the new "hunter" I took the blame for the skunk incident. A skunk scare-off was a first for the three hunters in our group.

DownWind Outdoors

The last time I traveled to Amsterdam, NY to shoot, not the DownWind Outdoors shooting but my kind of shooting - photo shooting, Mike was unable to be there. It was nice to have all five of the DownWind Outdoors snipers this time.

The weather was terrible for shooting and photo shooting. There was deep snow on the ground and at times blinding snow and wind.

The next two photos were the first photos of the day. No snow.

This was one of the last of the day. It was snowing very hard at the end of our session.

I'm working on taking & editing snow photos.

My favorite photo of the day. So much so that I ordered a canvas.

Kristen and I have a hard time getting Eric to do "normal" photo shoots. We won't let him forget this day in the woods the next time we want to take photos.

I also have a favorite video on the DownWind Outdoors website. It involves a turkey hunt. About five minutes into the video Eric takes off running thru a field and over a barbed wire fence.

I bet you wouldn't even notice Jerrod if you walked by him at this shooting location. Coyotes & deer have very good eye sight. A lot of time is spent finding the right location to hunt.

At first I had a hard time standing in front of the guns. In all the equipment the DownWind snipers brought they had NO bullets.

Next up is Brian.

Each of the DownWind Outdoors Snipers take turns shooting or filming. In this video Brian & Eric use two cameras. It's my favorite video of Brian.

Below is my favorite photo of Brian. We were deep in the woods. I love the color of the photo. He is calling, I think he is making a sound like an injured rabbit.

The reason for my "weekend in the country" was to take photos of the DownWind snipers.

Andy is featured in this video. It's one of my favorites. Make sure you have your speakers on.

I like the beginning. The driving in the truck part.

 Also, just so you know, there was an animal killed in the making of the video.

Google Maps & Predator Hunting

I don't hunt, never have & never will. I did fire a gun once, at a firing range. I was a teenager, probably weighted 90 pounds & I fell to the ground when I fired my one & only shot. It was not fun. My son of DownWind Outdoors is big into hunting. I have my boss to thank for getting him started since his father doesn't hunt either. There is a great article on their website.  It's under "Favorite Gear." Here's the link to Google Maps & Predator Hunting. Even as a non-hunter I found the article very interesting. Coyote season started today. I know where my son will be all weekend. I on the other hand will be sorting thru clothes for donation. We have a basement full that needs to go. Also, a pile in the garage ready to go. Maybe I should take up hunting. At least I'd be outside in the woods.

This poor little guy had a injured leg. The only animal at the farm, we think, that was hurt. Eric took a liking to him. Eric LOVES animals. He always has. You wouldn't know he has such a liking to animals by his new website and hunting endeavors.
