Spring

Can you have to many eggs & birds around the house?
In the family room.
In the living room. The wall in the family room.
The blue front door.
I hope not.
If I found another abandoned nest I'd bring that one home also.
Mau, remember when I almost bought those cute birds in that pet shop? I didn't think they would travel well on my trip home. The same pet shop that I wanted to buy Mickey the dog?

Weekend Recap

The weekend did not get off to a good start. The sweatshirt that I wore for the first two Syracuse NCAA games worked great, not so much for the third. Maybe it was because when Mike, Terri, Mick & I had a good luck toast prior to the start of the game I only had tea. Terri commented a toast should never be with water. I may have been to close. DARN
This was the highlight of the night & quite possibly the weekend. This could qualify as a green project. Deviled Eggs served in a cardboard egg carton. They looked & tasted great! Would be a nice addition to any Easter dinner!

The weekend went downhill when I cut my right thumb while in our attic searching for something to send to Amie. I reached into a box that contained a glass that had broken when it was transported from college to home. I'm NOT good with blood. It was all I could do to get down from the attic & call Mike & Terri to come & transport me to the ER. It was a three hour visit to find out a bunch of steri-strips & a tetanus shot was all I needed. Mick left for Boston early Saturday morning so he could watch the Celtic's play on Sunday night. I'm glad he didn't come home Monday to find me passed out in the attic. Can I have a weekend do over?

The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society

There is a character in the book that says "reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad ones". I've been telling the members of my book club this for two years now. I can never go back to the books I used to read, the Danielle Steele type books. This was my kind of book. It's a story about life during and after WWII. Specifically, about the members of a book club that formed in the Channel Islands during German occupation. I was the moderator and thankfully this is a very popular book club book. I was able to cheat & get lots of questions off the Internet. ; )
Has anyone ever read any of my book club recommendations?

Tip Thursday

Clean your barbecue grill with aluminum foil.
Next time you have a used piece of foil, form it into a ball, with the soiled side on the inside, rather than wasting a good piece of foil, then clean your grill. I saw this tip on TV & I did try it out prior to using it as my Tip Thursday. It worked great!! I will never again purchase a grill brush that never lasts.

Barbie at 50

Kristen, Marie & I went to Bloomingdale's to see Barbie's 50th Anniversary display.
This is Barbara Millicent Roberts in March of 1959.This is what she would look like if she had "aged normally". Aged normally? I wonder if I'm aging normally. Actually, I don't think I want to know. Mom thinks Barbie would look better if she cut her hair.
Of the displays this was my favorite.Kristen liked this one. I think Amie's Barbie had this outfit.
There was also lots of celebrity dolls.

We spent a lot of time looking at all the dolls over the 50 years. It was so interesting.

Spring Randomness

Remember my quest to find tomato pincushions? At The Container Store I bought a jar to hold my collection. I'm not sure if I like the green tomato or not. Saw this flag while walking the streets of NYC. I immediately thought of my loyal blog reader in London.
For years I've been wanting to stop on the side of the road & take a picture of the Amish hay stacks. This Saturday was the day. My father would have loved to see these pictures. Once I saw two Amish girls building a stack. Would be neat to be able to watch the entire process.

Last week was a day I never thought would come, I received a check from the county probation department for just over half the cost of Agent 99. Out of the three boys that were charged only one is working & making restitution. If the other two become employed they will then pay back their third to the first boy and so on.

Did I say Spring Randomness? This is what we woke up to yesterday!

Wish someone offered me a ride to Memphis, I would go! That's assuming I could get a ticket.

Drinking & Dining

I finally was able to experience the wine cellar. The pictures I've seen prior to my visit does not do it justice. One wall has floor to ceiling shelves that they put together themselves.

Eric is becoming quite the wine connoisseur. One lesson he didn't remember, red wine will give you a headache. White wine will not.

This was my favorite decoration. I have a thing for birch.
Our second bottle had sentiment in it & required straining. Carmine received the strainer for his birthday, which was Wednesday, the same day as Kristen.
All dishes used had a wonderful grape pattern. Grapes = Wine : )
They have a LOOOOng way to go to fill the jar with corks.
After the wine cellar we were treated to a delicious dinner.
The dinner was a birthday celebration for these three.
It was a wonderful evening.

Tip Thursday

When adding contact numbers to your cell phone for a person or place you call the most, enter an A, a space and finally the name or place of the contact.
When I open my "Contacts" the list looks like this
A Amie
A Eric
A Mick.
It is so convenient to have their names appear right at the beginning of the list rather than searching for them alphabetically.

Happy Birthdays

Happy Birthday Eric!
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

Kristen had a birthday last week. She also had gifts to open.

I made a scrapbook for them to share.
I've been downstate since last Thursday. Did you miss GEL-Oh?

Tip Thursday

The shadow at work & avoiding being on the blog.
The fourth time we've, you know what I mean by "we", painted the door. The first time it was taken off the hinges for the painting.
I've learned a lesson with door color. The tip for Thursday, always go darker, much darker than what you think when choosing a color for an exterior door on a home.

Is it SPRING yet?

You say tomato....

I say, I have a favor to ask.
In the March 2009 issue of Country Living there was an article on pincushions. They showed the below jar filled with red tomato pin cushions.
A jar filled with red tomato pincushions would look great on display in my kitchen. I currently posses 2, only 2. So, if you are at a garage sale, Salvation Army store, the Jewish Women's Thrift store in LA, etc, etc & see any for sale, please think of me. I will gladly pay you back.

Sports Saturday

It was a great sports day on Saturday. Mike, Terri, Mick & I watched both the SU basketball and football teams win. The basketball team played a great game. They need to keep it going now that the tournaments are starting. You are wondering about the SU football teams win? We watched The Express. If you haven't' seen it. Go out & rent it. I LOVED it. It's based on the life of Ernie Davis & is a very inspiring story. I also tried a new recipe. I would defiantly make it again.
It was fun to make!
I would not make clusters the next time, I would keep each grape on it's own. I also used fat free cream cheese & lite mayo. Trying to keep fruit somewhat still good for you. I also only made half a batch. You could even cut that in half if you wanted.
If you ever do make the recipe, let me know what you think.
