There is a character in the book that says "reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad ones". I've been telling the members of my book club this for two years now. I can never go back to the books I used to read, the Danielle Steele type books. 
This was my kind of book. It's a story about life during and after WWII. Specifically, about the members of a book club that formed in the Channel Islands during German occupation. I was the moderator and thankfully this is a very popular book club book. I was able to cheat & get lots of questions off the Internet. ; )
