First Home

Leigh Anna and Steven are now proud homeowners.
Their beautiful home is located just north of Atlanta.
If anyone is driving to visit let me know. I'll give you all my half quarts of paint so they can change the color of their front door on a regular basis. Although, rumor is the color is being painted University of Georgia Red. Next should be East Carolina Purple. Purple is one color I haven't used yet. It may be my next choice. I wonder if Steven likes to paint???

ATL

I was looking up into the sky about 65 miles north of Atlanta, Ga and noticed all the contrails. I've never seen so many contrails so close together. I later learned Atlanta has the busiest airport in the world.
Why was I looking up into the sky? Taking photos of all the beautiful trees in bloom.
Also enjoying the blue sky.
This was not taken with the three photos above but in Atlanta.
The sun coming up.
I love spring. Hopefully the north country will be experiencing
 spring blooms soon.

Cabana Night

Bob, pictured below, and Charlie recently returned from a vacation in Puerto Rico. Saturday night with temperatures of 20 degrees they held a Cabana Night at their home.
Bob made several different rum drinks and severed pina colada's after dinner. The dinner consisted of chicken, red beans and rice. Oh, there also was Mexican coffee. Although, I stayed with my usual hot tea. Everything was delicious. The highlight of my evening was the slide show of photos they took during their trip! I love photos.

End of an Era

We've been meeting for breakfast at McCarthy's Restaurant the first Thursday of every month for just over seven years . The restaurant had been for sale a couple years and yesterday it served its last meal. It finally sold and is going to become, of all things, a funeral home.
We've had Scott as our wonderful waiter for many years. Hope he is able to find a new place work. We were all afriad to ask him what his plans are.
We have two diners, a bagel shop and sandwich shop to try out for our McCarthy's replacement.  We each had our favorite meal and ordered the same breakfast every time. Well, maybe eleven months out of a year. Let the taste testing begin!

Hats, hats for sale

We missed Amie during our "Hats, hats for sale." First sale I bought the pink feathered hat for Amie and I thought about buying the purple hat that Debbie modeled this time.
The purple hat would make a great tea cozy!! No hats were purchased during this day of antiquing thou.
We did have lots of hats to choose from. Hats are showing up at all the antique stores. I'm not sure if they are actually worn or simply used as display.

Vacation

I was in South Carolina last week with a side trip to Georgia for a long weekend. One day out on a walk in Columbia I spotted a Mazda Miata and thought of Mick & Eric. Unfortunately with our weather Mick's Miata won't leave its winters rest in the storage barn for a couple months.
On the same walk I came across this WANTED poster. I immediately thought of a few friends back home. They would really like the poster.
I'm surprised the poster still hangs in the Red State of South Carolina.

Eric

Happy Birthday to You.
Happy Birthday to You.
I'm sure your birthday wish would be to spend today in the woods. Hope it will be a good one anyway. Will it be a Shamrock shake or green beer today. Maybe both?
You enjoying the DownWind Outdoors theme on the blog this week?

DownWind Outdoors

Jerrod in the back of his truck with the coyotes from the week. You can see the snow coming down against the black of the truck bed.
This is the winter version of shot currently on the DownWind Outdoors website.
Jerrod calling and Brian shooting. Well, not really shooting. No bullets around when I am photo shooting.
Jerrod alone with his rifle.

DownWind Outdoors

The last time I traveled to Amsterdam, NY to shoot, not the DownWind Outdoors shooting but my kind of shooting - photo shooting, Mike was unable to be there. It was nice to have all five of the DownWind Outdoors snipers this time.
The weather was terrible for shooting and photo shooting. There was deep snow on the ground and at times blinding snow and wind.
The next two photos were the first photos of the day. No snow.

This was one of the last of the day. It was snowing very hard at the end of our session.

I'm working on taking & editing snow photos.

Happy Birthday dear Kristen.
 Happy Birthday to You!
Tag made with fabric from Amie with a gift sewn inside of a paper bag. My first time attempting to sew a gift inside of a bag. Lesson learned, mark sewing lines with a pencil prior to stitching.
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Little Uncle David and Steven. March is certainly a busy birthday month.

Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen

Reading was slow going in the beginning. Although, I found the growing up life style of the main character Catherine Grace very interesting. Catherine Grace graduated from high school the same year as I did which added to my interest. Then about midpoint I had such a need to know what was going to happen I couldn't read fast enough.
The book has many twists, turns and surprises. I would highly recommend Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen. Debbie and Leigh Anna would also enjoy since it's Southern fiction and takes place in Georgia.
There is a Reader's Guide and this book would make for a great book club choice.

Estate Auction

I traveled 70 miles round trip, on two Saturdays, from 10am - 3pm both days to attend an estate auction. The first Saturday I came home with nothing except a headache. It was the never ending talking of the auctioneer. Auctions are also very stressful - do I want to bid, how much should I bid, how high am I willing to bid, when should I start my bidding. Stress.
The second Saturday I was able to "win" an oak chair. Which looks a lot better after my Howard treatment.
The cained seat is in perfect condition.
I was told by a couple people at the auction that oak furniture is no longer popular. We stopped at the antique store after the auction & the owner confirmed. I looked around the living when I got home, which is  filled with oak furniture, the heck with them. I love my oak furniture. Maybe this means I'll be getting better bargain's.

Bathroom Remodel

Both windows in the bathroom have been replaced. The window that faces the house next door I ordered with privacy glass. It's taking some getting used to. I also changed how the window opens. It now opens to the left, open to the backyard. The older window opened to the street. I'm happy I thought to change that.
This photo was taken standing directly in front of the window.
The reason for the privacy glass, there won't be a curtain on the window.

Moleskine Book Covers

I've put the fabric scraps from Amie to use covering moleskine books.

The instructions came from Patchwork + Quilted Gifts. If you look to the last page of "Look Inside" you can see what a finished book looks like.
I still have to stitch around each fabric square. I'll be sewing this weekend!

Bathroom Remodel

The toilet in the upstairs bathroom has been removed.
The 1970's beautiful gold toilet is in the garage waiting to go to the transfer station.
It will follow the way of the 1970's green toilet from the downstairs half bath.
Trust me, both 2000 era toilets are white.
I feel like I'm back in Collamer sleeping where the only bathroom was downstairs.

Bathroom Remodel

We now have heat and a fan in the bathroom. Prior to the remodel there was neither.
Mick installed the heater on a timer. Take my word for it, on a below zero morning heat is a wonderful thing.
Installing a fan turned into a bigger project than I imagined.
Did you know you have to get out onto a roof in the middle of winter & cut a hole through the siding and the original 1895 wood of the house to vent a fan? Well, I didn't.
Things went a lot faster during the kitchen remodel when there was help around.
Help.
Happy March 1st. Spring has to be close now!
