My week in review.
Our trivia team name is the first letter of our last names. We came in second place, for the second year. I take full responsibility for our placing. I was insistent on the year the paper clip was invented. I was wrong & we got a lot of questions wrong because of it. A sample question for you. What radio station call letters spell the name of it's city exactly?
Mick was in Toronto all week and I didn’t have to cook for the entire week!! I purchased a rotisserie chicken on Monday & ate it every night. Whenever I have rotisserie chicken I remember back in the day of CJHL playoffs. Eric would eat two whole chickens before every playoff game.

The photo on Wednesday shows the tattered edge obtained by using the Tonic distresser. Hope you figured that one out. I love that distresser.

Amie’s “new” job is going great. This week she was assigned PLAID for the entire company. If she doesn’t already, she better love plaid! I put in a Mother's Day request with her. I would like an updated Flat Panel. The one pictured below she made while at FIDM.

Hope you had a good week. It will be a short weekend. I hate adjusting my waking up & eating schedule to that lost hour.

Tip Thursday

A study was done, I heard on the radio yesterday, the best time to purchase an airline ticket is on a Tuesday or Wednesday!

When I purchased my tickets to travel to LA over Christmas I spent hours searching for days, times & flights. It was amazing the difference in price day by day. I searched on & off over a two week period before I finally purchased. I looked back, the ticket confirmation was for October 29, 2008 which was a Wednesday. Coincidence? My next purchase will be for tickets to Columbia for a bridal shower. I've been searching so I guess I'll wait until next Tuesday or Wednesday & see what things will look like then.

Valentine's Gift

For the third year I've chosen scrapbooking over flowers or chocolate. Every year just before Valentine's Day Mick will always say, "I know you don't want flowers. I'll be getting you chocolate." He's knows that I think flower shop flowers are a waste of money. As much as I LOVE chocolate I would eat the entire gift, which I don't need. Three years ago I told him I'd think about what he could do & I came up with an online scraping order.

I enjoy searching all the products online, placing the order & then opening up the box when it arrives. I love Valentine's Day! The package came on Friday & this weekend I put the gift to good use. The Tonic tool is my new favorite! I'll be using it all the time. This is a new thing, both Mick & I are now receiving tools as gifts. The house album I'll be making a album for Mick filled with photos of his house projects. I'm going to try to have it done for his birthday.

Trivia Contest

Our team meet for dinner prior to going to the library trivia benefit. We did not get off to a good start. When we left for the coffee shop, where the contest was being held, our cars were covered with ice. The library director was also with us so there was no getting started until we arrived. I let Mick do the scraping. Bob was the master of ceremony again this year. He's presenting the coveted trophy to the winning team.
There was only a one point difference between first & second place.
Bob also took the picture of our team . I think he better stick to his Alex Trebek job.

Book Club

Our selection for this month was Mrs. Mike. I LOVED the book. It is based on the life of Katherine Flannigan. Her story is amazing. I actually had a hard time believing it could even be a true story. I found out at our meeting that there are parts in the book that did not happen. Our moderator was able to find some information about Mrs. Mike on the Internet. If you are looking for a good read, I would highly recommend reading Mrs. Mike. Someday I'm going to watch the movie.

I hosted this month & gave everyone in the club a bookmark that I made. I had numbers & the person that drew one got first pick.

They are made with wool felt, stitched with embroidery thread and backed with regular felt that is pre-glued. I am definitely going to make more.

I served cheese fondue. The first time I had ever made cheese fondue. Cheese fondue is made with wine & not milk or cream. I had no idea. I had always assumed milk based. It was delicious I'm going to start making it more often when we have get togethers. I won't host again until November although, next month I'm the moderator. The selection for March is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Tip Thursday

Remember when "we" started this project? I say we since I'm not doing any of the work. It was January 25, 2009. The scope of the renovation project was to install a door going down to the basement.

Doors are in, painting is still required. I love the hardware. Oh, I did do some work. I cleaned all the hardware!

The interior of the powder room now has moulding similar as the rest of the house. It looks so much better then the cheap stock moulding! Painting is still required.
A phase of the project that we never imagined was to install recessed lighting in the family room. It required crawling in the attic.
It looked like a movie set.
When I designed the kitchen/family room the ONLY thing I messed up was not putting recessed lighting in this area. I thought I would have to live with my mistake. I am so very happy to have them. I can now sit on the love seat & be able to read.
Projects are always such a mess. The worse part. The never ending dust. Oh, I did do some work. I collected all the dust in the Dyson.
Thursday Tip. Plan on every home project to take more time than expected. Plan on the project to be more work than expected. Plan on the project costing more money than expected. Lastly, mentally go into the project remembering the above tips, you will feel better during the process.
