Button Heart Giveaway

Boy, everyone who left comments on the button heart giveaway knows me all to well. I was thinking the guesses would be pink & purple. When I was choosing what my favorite color would be, I had a hard time deciding between ivory & brown, ivory it is with brown a very close second.
I wish you could see the buttons in person. The glass button is beautiful!
There were seven guesses. Unfortunately, three came after the Sunday deadline. The four guesses that made the deadline all had ivory or brown. I’ve decided to make a heart for each of you. Eric, Donna & Cristina pick a color scheme for your heart. Amie you already have one, sorry no seconds. Remember the heart pictured on June 25 is available.
Hard to believe that tomorrow starts the second half of 2009. Time goes all to quickly.

The color purple

We spent the weekend at Mom's house. She has chosen the color purple this year. The wicker planter is on her porch. The planter belonged to Dad's Mom.
The wagon sits in the lawn in her front yard. The wagon is a reproduction.

Cake Boss vs Book Club

This week was our last book club meeting until September. = )
I have not enjoyed our last two selections, The Comfort of Strangers in May and The Picture of Dorian Gray this month. You must have noticed that I didn't even mention book club last month? The highlight of the meeting this month was a cake. I've become addicted to the show Cake Boss. I needed something to replace Jon & Kate Plus 8.
There is a story behind the cake, there is always a story behind the cake according to Buddy. Our host had a cat named Oscar Wilde who died a month ago. Oscar Wilde wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray.
The cake was dirty frosted (term I used from Cake Boss) & covered with fondant. This was my first time having a cake with fondant. I only ate a bit of the fondant. I'm not sure if you are even supposed to eat the fondant. Anyway, it was chocolate on the inside & absolutely delicious!! Because of my new cake obsession I would have rather talked cake than Dorian. This weekend I'm going to start reading Julie & Julia 365 days, 524 recipes, 1 tiny apartment kitchen. My first non book club book in a long time. I also think I need to bake a cake!

Button Heart Giveaway

Remember when I showed the first button heart that I made? Well, below is my sixth heart.
I love making these hearts. I love it so much, that if you go to my post from Tuesday & leave a comment guessing which button color group I like best, I will make you a button heart. You can have the one above, since it was made just because I like the color scheme or a color scheme of your choice. If more than one person guesses correctly, I'll have Mick draw a name. You will have until Sunday, June 28th, to leave a comment.

Old Buttons

I came across a blog that is all about buttons. I was so excited to find out that there is a least one other person out there that finds enjoyment out of sorting thru old buttons. Below is a sampling of a few different colors that I've divided up into sandwich bags.
Black

Ivory Brown Red

Purple. "Hello, Kelsey."
Pink
In my defense, this represents many nights of working on craft projects and sorting as I work. If anyone finds a blog for "Button Issues Anonymous" let me know. I've already met the first requirement; admitting you have a problem.
Since I haven't had one in awhile, I think there will be a blog giveaway in the works for this week.

Night on the river

Last week we had dinner at a castle.
Why can't I hold out my camera & take a good self portrait?
Mike & Bonnie, not a self portrait.
Captain Don was on duty. Mick even got to ride with him on one of his runs. If you look close you can see Don's profile at the helm.
It was a beautiful evening, one of the few we've had recently weather wise.

Father's Day

I find today to be very depressing, even more so this Father's Day. Of course it just happens to be Summer Solstice & the longest day of the year.
Here's thinking of you today Dad.

Flowers on the deck

I know I complained about what I spent on flowers this year but, I am loving all my choices & its been worth the expense. Below is my "shabby un-chic" area. I got the bucket for free at an antique shop, it was in a trash pile. A possum ate the paint off. Apparently the paint has a sweetness to it & they like the taste. Mick does not like shabby.
This is what is in the wicker planter.
My favorite. I'm always drawn to all white. Another weekend coming up. Hope you have a great one! I'll spend mine thinking rather worrying. Eric will be hiking in NH. Now that he is an ADK 46er he is on a mission to become a White Mountain Four Thousand Footer, 48 peaks this time.

Museum Part II

A few of my favorite things at the museum. I recently was given an old typewriter from Mike & Terri. I've been wanting one for a long time. The ones I've seen in antique shops where either junk or nice & expensive. There was a children's bedroom filled with neat things. There are lots of old clothes on display. The outfit below is what someone wore on her wedding day. I wish I remembered the date.
There is a military room. Thought of Eric when we saw this sample of WWII guns. Thought of Amie when I saw this sewing machine. It's a display of an old time fashion design desk. Now all they have is a computer.

Museum Part I

With all the work we've done the past month around the house, I forced Mick to go downtown for all the Flag Day events on Saturday. I had to come up with something so he wouldn't spend the day working. He said it was the first time in 20 years he has walked downtown. We also went to the museum. Mick has never been. It was my third time. In the basement, very appropriate, are the mining exhibits. Below is Number Two Mine.
The below portion of Number Two Mine has since been taken down, in real life.
An old car.
Filled with ore.

There are also cases filled with minerals. I think Mau needs to visit our museum!

middle of the night call

The phone rang yesterday morning at 1:14 am est. I answered within a split second of the first ring, I think, it was my daughter. "Hello Mom, guess what?" Thankfully, her voice was bright & cheerful. I knew, almost within a split second, that nothing was wrong, thankfully. Have I already said "thankfully?"
"Ellie is engaged."

Congratulations to Paul & Ellie. May they have a long & happy life together.

Ellie is not a very willing photo subject. I love this photo, it's edited to look weddingish. I know Britt & Amie will comment on how Ellie doesn't have her eyes closed. Ellie, with a wedding coming up you better get used to having your picture taken!

On display

Getting ready for Flag Day this Sunday. With the deck renovation my usual garden flag spot had to be moved. I'm not sure I'm liking the new spot but, it's there or no where, and I could never give up my garden flag obsession.

If you have a flag, make sure you get it out for the weekend. Thanks, and our country thanks you! : )

Blog 2 Print

The new home for GEL-Oh in two notebooks.
For Mother's Day Eric gave me a copy of my blog, from the day I started, November 29, 2007 thru December 31, 2008. Blog 2 Print copied GEL-Oh to a PDF file and then Eric printed it on to bright white photo quality paper. Each page has photos & words printed into different formats.
I love how it came out. I've already requested that he place another order from January 1 - June 30, 2009. Eric, this is kind of like the gift that keeps giving!

Benefit Recap Part II

Mike, Drew, Candice, Kristen & Eric, a great group of kids. We had so much fun with them. Mike & Drew may look familiar to you, usually you see them with hunting clothes & "deadsies" on Eric's blog. Drew played summer AAA hockey with Eric in 1995 & 1996. Mick & I hadn't seen him since then. This is one of the good things about Facebook, about the only good thing. You are able to make connections with friends from your past. Drew lives in Kingston, Ontario & will be getting married in October 2010.
Finally a photo of myself that I am somewhat pleased with.
Carmine & Marie, their first visit to NNY. I hope they enjoyed their visit as much as we loved having them. Unfortunately, it was so busy we didn't get much time together.
Donna was my assistant for the weekend. She arrived Thursday afternoon & stayed until Sunday afternoon.
If I had a prize, Nicole would get it for coming the farthest, all the way from London! If I knew Evelyn had a computer I wouldn't post this photo. She would not be happy if she saw it.
Thanks to everyone that came out & supported the hospital.

Benefit Recap Part I

Dessert table in the dining room. Thanks Dayle & Terri for your contributions of delicious goodies.
Kitchen table.
Setting up on the deck cold beer & soda.
Kristen had the assignment of ironing clothes for all the boys.
We then got into looking at old photos.
There was a trip raffle.
Candice took care of the entry for the trip.
Bob was our bartender for the evening. He is a professional bartender by the way! I know Amie is reading this & thinking I was in my glory giving out assignments & keeping things moving. Yes, Amie I was. : )
This is what greeted me Sunday morning. The photo is not blurry, this is what it looked like when you had nights of 3am & 2am.
Our floor has never been this bad.
Can you guess how I spent my Sunday?
Tomorrow I'll have a few more people photos from the evening.

Our donation jar was filled by the end of the evening. : ) : )
