The King's Speech

I've seen four movies in the last four years, Phantom of the Opera, Julie & Julia, The Blind Side and The King's Speech. This morning I feel pretty special since I can discuss "the movie" that one four awards. I loved the movie.
I paid close attention to how the homes were furnished and the landscapes of London. My favorite landscape scene was the foggy walk in Regent Park. I had tears in my eyes when the King walked away all alone. I want to go to Regent Park, in the fog.
I hope to see The King's Speech again one day.

Homemade Shower Curtain

The below shower curtain is from Garnet Hill. I'm going to attempt to make a shower curtain using this as a design. Mine won't be reversible, I'll simply have a white back. Oh, we'll be installing the same white 4" by 6" subway tiles around our tub.
I've been experimenting with color combinations. Thank you Amie for sending me fabric scraps. : )

I don't think either one of my first tries will be my final choice.
I may go with mixing up the colors rather than one primary color.
Hopefully over the weekend I can come up with the final design.

First day of spring.

The first day of spring is a mere 26 days away.
I've been enjoying a hint of spring for the last couple weeks right on our kitchen table.
The bouquets from the grocery store cost around $8.00 each and will last over TWO weeks.
The mums were purchased on February 11th and the photo was taken yesterday. I try to remember to change the water every other day. I think that helps the flowers last longer.
Isn't the thrifted hobnail vase wonderful.

Barthroom Remodel

This post is for you Mau and Eric, you've been asking about our bathroom project.
The upstairs bathroom remodel began during the Christmas holiday season.
First thing to happen was the removal of the popcorn ceiling.
Of course lots of insulation from the attic also came falling down. Why is home remodeling always so messy & unpredictable?
The ceiling, our house was built in 1895, back when plaster lath was still used.
Mick's hair is gray but not this gray.
Dust and more dust everywhere.

Snow, snow & more snow!

Day and
night.
Night and
day.
Getting tired of all the snow photos? I'm sure not as tried as we are of shoveling, snow blowing, car scrapping, wading through thigh deep snow to add seed to my bird feeders and boot, scarf, mitten & hat wearing.

Lake Effect Snow

Thursday we had a Lake Effect Snow Storm.
A series of storm photos taken though the dining room window.

For the first time in years I felt like I was back living in Central New York.
Is it spring yet???

Tip Thursday

Bought this rush seated bench at my favorite thrift store in LA, paid $15. Had no idea how it was going to make the 2,800 mile trip to come home with me. It was old since the seat had a lot of ground in dirt.
Don't you like how it looks just tucked under the sofa table?
Amie used the bench in her apartment for a year until one day a box arrived at my office with the bench. The bench & two pairs of pants that I accidentally left from another visit. Guess I have to add $20 for shipping to my $15. It's still worth more than my new $35 price, I think.
Wondering where the "Tip Thursday" is coming in? Howard Products. I used Restor-A-Finish in Golden Oak and then Feed-N-Wax on the bench. I bought the Restor-A-Finish in October and used on every piece of oak in the house. OMG, I can't say enough about Howard. I wasn't happy with the bench with just Restor-A-Finish so last weekend I bought Feed-N-Wax at our local hardware store. What a difference!!! The wax cost $9. Add that to my $35. What's my total cost now? I don't care. Why did it take so long to find Howard.

Winter Hike

Bonnie & I went on our second winter hike. We walked for 1.5 hours in snow that was 22 inches deep in most places. Unlike our first hike we saw lots of signs that animals & birds are around.
This must be a bunny hide out.
I have no idea what animal this track is from. I'm thinking it might even be from a bird.
Bonnie spotted this nest. I love how the snow hasn't melted out of the nest.
This is a view when we tunred around and walked our way back out.

It was a beautiful sunny day. It was very hard walking but that just added to the excerise value.

Snow, snow & more snow.

I missed the overnight forecast concerning 10 inches of snow. I missed it since not a weather person predicted it. I'm sure this poor California car didn't plan spending anytime in a NNY winter.
There is no more room on the deck to put anymore snow. I was wishing I could have gotten the snow blower onto the deck. The snow was very heavy to shovel.
 My L O V E flag. I'ts not the snow I'm lovin.
In the eight winters we've been in this house the snow has never been this deep.
Oh weather person, my Mom wants to know, "Are you in trouble for doing your job so poorly?"

My defense.
 My offense.
You know who I'm routing for in the Super Bowl.

Goodbye Paper Towels

I haven't purchased paper napkins in a long time. I'm always on the lookout for bargin cloth napkins that go with our kitchen & our dishes. Did you know food tastes better when you have a cloth napkin. It does! Cloth is also the "green" thing to do, "green" in the environment & your wallet.
My next "go green" thing will be to stop using paper towels. After this roll is gone there are two left. I think I'll like the look of the counter without the paper towels also.

Remember my homemade dish cloths? I'll be using them instead of paper towels.

Laundry Room

Laundry room addition, a sweet curtain to cover the storage area below the sink. I had a helper during installation.
Doesn't that look better?
The room adjoining has a cabin/rustic theme. I was so excited when I found the fabric that had leaves with just a touch of the orange that is on the walls. I don't like to matchy matchy.
Only problem is, it's not my laundry room. Told Bonnie if she is not happy with my fabric choice, find a yard of fabric and another curtain she will get.
PS - This post is for you Kay, Bonnie's sister, "Good morning Kay."

Cork on a door.

I purchased a roll of thin cork at a craft store. Using a 40% off coupon it cost me $10.00.
I looked and looked on the Internet to figure out how to adhere the cork to the back of my cupboard door. Titebond II was the choice by most. Well, Titebond II did not work for me. Thankfully, I was able to wash the glue right off the door. I think it was because of the glossy finish the glue wouldn't work.
I came up with the idea to use double sided heavy duty carpet tape. IT WORKED !! See that Titebond II.  : )
The best part, the cutest tacks that I found. They match the kitchen colors perfectly.
There is enough cork to do the back of another door although, I think one cork message board is enough.
