Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

CFLs use up to 75% less energy than regular bulbs and last 12 times longer. Each bulb costs about $3.00, I've found them less than that. If you used a bulb for about four hours day in NYS, the bulb would save about $1 in energy costs per month. Payback would be in about 3 months. In Nebraska the payback would be just over 7 months. It depends on the cost of your electricity. I've replaced all the bulbs in our house that we use on a regular basis with CFBs.
Oh, a bonus tip. Change your furnace filter after every 3 months of use.

Living with the energy czar for 25+ years, we bought these when they were even more expensive, but they last a long time and you can now buy all shapes and sizes. We even found some attractive ones for lights where the bulbs are not covered by a shade. In addition to saving money, they also save the environment! Good tip!

We just replaced our 3-way bulbs in the livingroom lamps. Even though the light output is measured as the same as the old bulbs, we have all noticed that we do not perceive it as being as bright. Can anyone explain this?

Also, the 3-way bulbs are about $9.
